These foils are made from an austenitic stainless steel alloy, primarily consisting of iron, chromium (16–18%), nickel (10–14%), molybdenum (2–3%), and a very low carbon content, along with trace amounts of manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur. The low carbon content helps minimize sensitization during welding, while the molybdenum boosts resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
