The SA537 Class 1 Boiler Sheet and Plate is made from carbon-manganese steel, featuring controlled amounts of carbon (around 0.25%), manganese (0.85–1.20%), phosphorus (maximum 0.025%), sulfur (maximum 0.015%), and silicon to boost its strength, toughness, and weldability. On the mechanical side, it offers a tensile strength ranging from 485 to 620 MPa, a minimum yield strength of 260 MPa, an elongation of 20–22%, and impressive notch toughness at low temperatures. These characteristics make it perfect for fabrication, welding, and forming in boilers, pressure vessels, and other high-pressure applications.

Tempering : Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
